I had a great time test driving the 2016 Mazda CX-9! This car truly impressed me as I ran errands, did my grocery shopping and shuttled my kids to school and sports! It gave new meaning to the term #momstaxi with it’s sleek exterior, plush leather interior and major get up and go horse power.
Let’s start with the exterior and the the way I noticed others checking out the CX-9 on the road or in a parking lot. The CX-9 that I test drove was a beautiful color called Machine Gray. In Arizona you see so many white cars and then a few black. With the heat black is quite a daring choice so, for me, the Machine Gray would be a perfect compromise. The 20 inch alloy wheels really made the car standout as well. And of course one of my favorite practical features was the power open/close lift gate.
Now, the interior was gorgeous. The Nappa Leather trimmed upholstery was so soft and for an extra bit of pizzaz, it was two toned with black and auburn. For as much driving as I do, a comfortable and functional interior is a necessity. One of the big surprises for me regarding the interior was the fact that the CX-9 seats 7 very comfortably. We had two adults in the front and the back two rows were filled with five tween boys.
When I didn’t need that third row, it was a breeze to fold down and make more cargo room. Even when the third row was up, I still had plenty of room for all of my families junk, I mean useful everyday stuff. I made a trip to Costco and of course I needed to stow the third row. I honestly cannot leave that store without spending a fortune! With two growing boys and all of their friends, I guess it is no surprise.
When it was time for hockey, my sons hockey bag and hockey stick fit in the back, no problem.
And now the horsepower, oh that glorious horsepower! I’m accustom to driving vehicles that fit my needs as far interior room but when it comes to getting on the freeway, I had no idea what it felt like to really get moving. I live really close to a major interstate highway and in order to go anywhere, I have to get on the interstate. The speed limit is 75 and to get up to that speed while merging was a breeze in the CX-9.
I was also pleasantly surprised at how smooth the ride was. With all wheel drive, every bump was absorbed and the road noise was almost non existent. Of course, the 12 Bose speakers were blasting so nothing would have bothered me.
Here are few more of my favorite features from the CX-9:
- Power Moon Roof
- Rain sensing wind shield wipers (we had a huge rainstorm during my test drive)
- 2nd row window sun shades
- Tilt wheel with audio and cruise control
- LED headlights with auto on/off
- Mazda Radar Cruise Control
- 8″ color display w/rear camera
- Active driving display (my speed was projected onto the windshield in front of me)
If you are in the market for a roomy family vehicle that reminds you of driving a sports car, be sure to checkout the Mazda CX-9. There were so many things that I loved about this vehicle but you truly need to experience it for yourself.
