Did you know that 700,000 children and adults in Arizona suffer from diabetes? That is an astounding number! If you don’t have diabetes, chances are great that you have a close friend or family member that does.
One of the precious lives that has been impacted by diabetes is a six year old Phoenix resident named Mia. She was diagnosed December 31, 2015. In that short amount of time Mia has had 2,233 insulin injections and 3,114 finger sticks. Soon, Mia will be getting a diabetic alert dog and will be going on a continuous insulin pump.
You may be wondering if you can help with the fight against diabetes and the answer is yes! There is an easy way for everyone to do their part from October 10 – 31. Head to your nearest Arizona Walgreens and make a donation of any size. Whether you just have some loose change in your car or a pocket full of large bills, saunter over to the register and donate. Just for making a donation, you will receive a red finger light.
My boys were excited to donate and excited to put their finger lights to good use. They decided to run around the back yard the other night and play tag while wearing their finger lights. After they wore themselves out, it was time to make light trails in the air. They also want to wear their finger lights when they trick or treat, which I thought was a fantastic idea!
Each donation that is made will be used to fund critical research, advocacy and programs that help improve the lives of all that have been affected with diabetes. How great it will be when we finally find a cure for diabetes? In the mean time, we can all do our part by donating.
