It’s summer and I’m trying to keep my boys busy. Lately they’ve been watching television and telling me about all of the movie previews they’ve seen. Of course, the one they are most excited about right now is Pete’s Dragon!
We took a trip to the store, rustled up some craft supplies from our junk drawer and we came up with Elliott from Pete’s Dragon. Here is a list of what you will need:
- craft foam sheets in green, red, orange and yellow
- green paint
- wooden spoon
- small googly eyes
- paint brush
The first step is to paint the spoon green. While that bad boy is drying, cut out some wings using the green craft foam. Now I know, mine are not the best. I could blame it on my kiddos, but no. They are my handiwork.
Next, cutout the flames using the red, orange and yellow craft foam. Be sure to make each color narrower than the previous one. Do you have to put them in the same order as I did? Well of course you do! Okay, not really. I’m sure it will look just as professional if you change things up a bit. Oh, I forgot to mention that you will need to glue them together. Did I really need to mention that part? Well I did, just in case.
Lastly, glue the wings, fire breath and eyes on. If you really want to go crazy, you can put some detail on the wings with paint or markers. I totally could have done this and shown you how awesome it looked, but, my boys managed to spill the rest of the paint and I couldn’t find a marker to save my life.
Have fun making Elliott. Even though we made a huge mess, it was a pretty fun time with my boys. I will warn you, that this Elliott does not fly. That was the first thing my boys did when we were finished. They threw it across the room like a javelin to see how far Elliott would “fly.”
Pete’s Dragon will be in theaters Friday, August 12th. While you’re waiting for opening day, have a little fun making your very own Elliott the Dragon!
