I am so thankful that my kids have never known hunger. Now I know they tell me regularly that they are starving but they have never known true hunger. I try to instill this thankfulness into them but I don’t think that they truly understand that some children in America are lucky to eat once per day and they may even go days without a proper meal.
In Arizona 30% of kids struggle with hunger. This affects so many aspects of their lives. When they go to school hungry, they have a difficult time focusing and paying attention in class. That is if they even make it to school. Arizona has 493,000 low income students that receive a free or reduced price lunch and only 46% of those students are getting school breakfast. I think this is a great start but I know we can do better!
September is No Kid Hungry month and many restaurants are raising money to help feed children that are going hungry. Denny’s is one of those restaurants. You can head to your local Denny’s and donate $1. That $1 will provide up to 10 meals! If you donate $3 you will receive $9 in coupons for some Denny’s favorites like pancake puppies, pancakes and $5/$20. This campaign lasts until October 31, so you have plenty of time to donate. Because of generous donations, Denny’s has been able to give over 1.4 million dollars to this amazing initiative!
