Take your motion sickness medicine because Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is one heck of a ride! We had the luxury of previewing the sequel at Arizona Mills IMAX theater in 3-D. In the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Guardians fight to keep their newfound family together as they try to figure out the true identity of Peter Quill’s (Chris Pratt) father.
It stays true to its classic comic book roots with action-packed space battles, out-of- this-world characters and witty dialogue. While I personally preferred the first movie, Vol. 2 is definitely designed to appeal to adolescent kids, specifically boys, between the ages of 9-14, complete with “potty humor” and “girls are gross” banter. (*Please note: there is some use of adult language)
I have one word to describe Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – ISSUES. There are father/son issues, sibling issues, abandonment issues, and anger management issues all wrapped up in one explosive, computer generated (CG) Marvel motion picture. While the “issues” topic seems heavy, they deliver these complex topics in a way that is humorous and, at moments, heart-warming.
Sprinkled with appearances from seasoned Hollywood stars such as Sylvester Stallone, Kurt Russell, and David Hasselhoff and an added dash of late 70’s/early 80’s songs on the Awesome Mixtape #2 soundtrack, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 offers something for the adults in the theater, too.
Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters, like Baby Groot, come together to create one highly energetic, head-spinning movie. And, let’s get real for a second – Baby Groot really IS the star (He’s just SO CUTE)!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, featuring Vin Diesel as Baby Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sean Gunn, Tommy Flanagan, and Laura Haddock. Kevin Feige is producing, and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jonathan Schwartz, Nikolas Korda and Stan Lee are the executive producers.
Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 blasts into theaters on May 5, 2017. Buckle up and enjoy the ride!
