A vacation to the Hawaiian islands should be on everybody’s bucket list. You will never forget the sights, the sounds and especially the cuisine! I’ve experienced Hawaii three times and I can’t wait to return.
I have good news, though. Roy’s Restaurant in Chandler gives you a taste of Hawaii without hopping on a plane! Guests can enjoy a Hawaiian inspired, three course meal for just $39.95 per person.
For the first course, diners can choose between an Heirloom Tomato Salad (Macadamia nut pesto – house made ricotta – shiso) or Shrimp Shumai (Chinese cabbage – Kaiware sprouts – Pineapple shoyu vinaigrette). The tomato salad was so fresh and the creaminess of the pesto and ricotta really made the dish hearty. The shrimp shumai had the perfect balance of a little bit of bitterness from the cabbage and a slight sweetness from the vinaigrette.
The second course is a choice between Pan Seared Hawaiian Opakapaka featuring baby squash, shiso tomato and vadouvan carrot puree, or the Kona Coffee-Crusted Pork and Kauai Prawns with honshimeji mushrooms, Okinawan Coconut Puree and bok choy. I really enjoyed the Opakapaka. It was a very mild fish and the flavor was really enhanced with the carrot puree. If you like a little spicy and sweet combination the pork is a good choice. The coffee crust had a little bit of a kick but when it was paired with coconut puree, the flavors were amazing!
To finish off the Taste of Hawaii, a White Chocolate Tart with sorbet will be served. Now what can I say? Dessert is my favorite part of every meal. The white chocolate tart did not disappoint! It was very light with a little bit of sweetness and then the lilikoi sorbet was surprisingly tart. It was the perfect way to end such an amazing meal.
If you are interested in enjoying the Hawaiian Prix Fixe menu, be sure to make reservations. Chef Patrick “Red” Bray and his team in Chandler do a fantastic job taking care of their guests.
