“I was provided an invitation to a pre screening for this movie for the purpose of this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
My daughter and I had the opportunity to see The BFG movie this week. Based on the children’s book by Roald Dahl. I remember reading this book when I was in grade school and can still see in my head just how this story played out in my mind all those years ago. I’m happy to say that the movie did the book justice and was so fun to sit and watch with my own daughter.
If you are not familiar with the story, The BFG is about a Big Friendly Giant who ends up capturing a young orphan girl and taking her back to giant land. Before you think it’s scary, remember he’s friendly. He takes her so that she won’t tell anyone about him and cause a circus.
The two end up going on adventures against the other giants, and BFG protects her while telling her about dream catching. They help each other and end up hatching a plan to take down the mean giants in Giant Land.
I won’t spoil it for you because you need to see the movie. It’s such a fun story and completely heart warming.
I saw this movie with my six year old daughter, who had lots of curious questions during the movie. I felt her age was appropriate for the content of the movie, and she understood the story line. Younger children than five may have a hard time understanding the movie. It was not scary at all, however there are some chase scenes that younger children may not understand. Just a caution for parents to know before heading to the movie.
Overall this was a beautiful execution of the children’s book and so well done. It’s always so neat to see stories in books come to life on the screen and The BFG was a really great example of this!
If you’re looking for a fun family film to take your kids to this Summer and beat the heat, grab your popcorn you’re in for a treat!
